On 29 July 2026, the African Diplomatic Corps gathered at the African Union Mission in Washington, D.C. to honour two departing heads of mission — H.E. Motaz Zahran, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and H.E. Noël Nelson Messone, Ambassador of the Gabonese Republic. Led by the Dean of the Corps, H.E. Mathilde Mukantabana of Rwanda, colleagues and friends offered tributes and messages of gratitude.
